Boy "pregnant" with twin brother

A seven years old boy who was admitted to hospital with stomach pains was actually "pregnant" with his twin brother. Initally the doctors thought there was a cyst but found the dead fetus of what was supposed to be his twin brother instead.

"As we washed him, we could see that inside him he had his own twin brother. Mourat had been a Siamese twin but nobody knew it."

"Something had gone wrong during his mother's pregnancy and the baby grew inside his brother."

Valentina Vostrikova, chief surgeon at Chimkent Children's Hospital, told the newspaper: "It was remarkable. For seven years it lived like a parasite inside the boy's body."

There was a tumor present but it was from the fetus which grew bones, hair and nails. While the fetus was no longer developing as normal fetuses do, the tumor on it was growing thanks to the boy's blood supply.

Doctors removed the tumor successfully and they say they boy could have died someday had this operation not occurred. Doctors say the fetus could have been a conjoined twin. But for some reason it ended up inside the boy instead of attached outside.
